Rooted in Cardinal Pride, Northwood offers rigorous academics, meaningful extracurriculars and a supportive environment that prepares students for success beyond high school.
Student Recognition
Students of the Month
Each month, we recognize students who exemplify R.E.D.—Respect, Effort and Determination. These students consistently show kindness toward others, put forth their best effort in the classroom and demonstrate perseverance when faced with challenges. Their actions set a positive example for their peers and reflect the core values of our school community.
Quarterly Rewards Day
At the end of each quarter, we celebrate student success with a variety of activities such as games, music, computer games, bingo, dodgeball, staff/student competitions and other engaging options that reward their hard work throughout the quarter. This event encourages students to set goals and hold themselves accountable.
R.E.D. Winners
R.E.D. Winners are students who go above and beyond in showing Respect, Effort and Determination every day. They treat others with kindness, put forth their best work and stay committed to their goals, even when tasks become difficult. Their dedication makes them stand out as leaders within the school and they are honored for embodying the values that help our school community thrive.

Career Day
Students are provided the opportunity to explore potential career paths by hearing from adults who share their professional experiences, making a meaningful impact on their learning and future aspirations.
Adulting Day
Adulting Day gives students the chance to learn practical life skills that will help them thrive as they grow older. Students choose from a variety of sessions such as budgeting, basic home and car maintenance, cooking essentials, time management and communication skills. This opportunity allows them to explore the real-world responsibilities and skills that adults use every day.
Our Feeder Schools
Why Feeder Patterns Matter
Staying within school feeder patterns plays a key role in creating a smooth, supportive transition for students as they move from elementary to middle school. When schools work closely together, students benefit from a more consistent learning experience, aligned academic expectations and a stronger sense of community.
At Northwood Middle School, we’re committed to building strong, lasting connections with our feeder elementary schools Price, Northcrest, Franke Park and neighborhood high school, North Side. Through events such as 5th Grade Visits, 6th Grade Orientation and Literacy Nights, we ensure students and families feel welcomed, informed and excited about becoming a Northwood Cardinal as they enter middle school.
Our staff collaborates with elementary teachers and administrators to support student success both academically and socially. These strong partnerships promote a shared sense of belonging for our students and families throughout their time in Fort Wayne Community Schools.
